Diverticulitis/Diverticulosis is the Diagnosis

I had my appointment with my GI doctor today and have been tentatively diagnosed with Diverticulitis/Diverticulosis. You can read more on the internet if you are so inclined (http://www.gicare.com/pated/ecdgs02.htm). I am on antibiotics for the next 10 days which will follow with about a months worth of probiotics. After we get back from Las Vegas in August I have scheduled an outpatient surgery where the doctors will confirm if I am allergic to Gluten. According to my GI doc my symptoms are not synonymous with a wheat allergy (plus my blood results were inconclusive) so she doesn't believe that is the problem. We are checking Gluten just to be certain. In September I have a followup appointment with my doctor to discuss what is next for me. Just as I suspected, my Doc believes that this has been a problem reaching back to my late teens/early 20s and was directly responsible for the sensitive surgery I had 3 years ago. It is unfortunate that doctors these days treat the ailment but never delve into why the ailment began in the first place. It is great that my previous problem has been fixed and life is much better because of the surgery....but the problem started somewhere and no one bothered to find out where.
