Texas Vacation: Day 3

Day 3's adventure began in Waco, Texas to visit Magnolia Market. Some of you may be familiar with Chip and Joanna Gaines and their television show "Fixer Upper" on HGTV. I loved visiting their retail shop and seeing in real life what I have watched being built on television.

Located in downtown Waco

The Magnolia Silos

Magnolia Flour: the most delicious cupcake I have ever eaten!
Called the "Cup of Jo", chocolate cupcake with coffee frosting.

Dr. Pepper Museum located just steps away from Magnolia Market

The soda you purchase from this museum is the best Dr. Pepper I have ever tasted. I don't know what they have done to it but it is more fresh and delicious than any fountain or bottled drink.

Saw the Magnificent 7 at the Alamo Draft House.
The single best movie-going experience of my life!
They deliver food and drinks right to you as you watch the movie.

Zoological Wildlife Conservation Center (ZWCC Sloth Sanctuary)

For Hubby's birthday I decided to surprise him with a visit to a sloth sanctuary right here in Oregon. For those of you who didn't know, sloths are Matt's favorite animal! ZWCC provides a safe environment for hundreds of sloths at their 100 acre home. On weekends they open this special place to the public for a fee. It is a fee well worth paying as all of the proceeds go to caring for these unique and endangered animals. The room we entered this afternoon had approximately 10 sloths inside varying in adult age (no babies). We fed them cucumber and pet them for about 40 minutes before our encounter was over. This sanctuary isn't just for sloths either, they also have rescued primates, wolves and cat-like carnivores. Very cool experience indeed!
Notice the wound on the sloth's hand... this little guy got in a fight over a female.
All the ladies begging for a snack
All the sloths woke up for an afternoon treat
Sweet boy who would also let you kiss him.

Star Trek Warehouse Sale

Almost a year and half ago, the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton closed its doors. The rumor mill has since abounded with stories of a reopening at a mall in downtown Vegas and a possible sale of items from the old exhibit.

You will never imagine my amazement when Hubby told me on Friday that it was finally happening, Propworx had been hired by CBS/Paramount to sell some of the items from the Experience AND they were doing it on Saturday April 10th. Talk about the best kept secret in Trek history, how did this not leak months ahead of time?

We both promptly sprung into geek-mode and prepared for the long trip to Vegas. So on Saturday morning at 2 am, we jumped in the truck and drove 8 hours to stand in line with 200+ fans to buy a piece of Trek history. (In case you are wondering, we drove home the same day).

There were a multitude of items available including: tables, chairs, wall panels, Borg alcoves, models, bridge pieces, gift shop hardware, costumes, and more. Of co…
